Despite a tough economic environment the market shows a need for positive Southern storytelling
Southern-based culture and lifestyle magazine, The Life, proudly unveiled its eleventh annual edition, showcasing the dynamic and creative essence of the South.
Published by Naked Creative, this edition spotlights two key themes: southern heroes and the exciting culinary revolution that is shaping the region's reputation globally.
The Life editor Carla Forbes expressed the repeated challenge of selecting stories amid the abundance of remarkable individuals contributing to the southern narrative.
“It never ceases to amaze me how many truly amazing people we have here in the south. There are so many stories and exceptional talent here, it’s incredible,” Forbes commented, emphasising the difficulty in choosing from a multitude of inspiring stories.
Jade Ward, a local teacher known for her big heart and unconventional approach to helping troubled youth, graces this year's cover, symbolising the transformative impact of passion and dedication.
"I love the cover. Jade had no idea, and she is so humble – she does it for the love, it really is awesome,’ Forbes hinted, underscoring Ward's significant role in changing lives through her unique teaching methods.
Edition 11 further illuminates the Southern cultural landscape by featuring country music artist Jenny Mitchell and other prominent country musicians, the stellar career of musical director Michael Buick, and the indomitable Malik twins, champions of women's empowerment who conquer challenges beyond mountains.
While heroism takes centre stage, the magazine also delves into the vibrant world of southern cuisine, sharing compelling food stories, delectable recipes, and highlighting innovative food producers who are captivating food enthusiasts and sustainably focused kitchens alike.
“We do food so well here it deserves the spotlight – and we absolutely punch above our weight in this aspect too. It has been a pleasure to uncover some truly remarkable food stories,” Forbes expressed.
Despite challenging times, The Life magazine has experienced an unprecedented surge in online sales, exceeding four times the figure of the previous edition at this time.
Naked Creative sees the publication as a powerful recruitment tool, presenting a 'shiny' side of Southland. The pages display stories not often talked about in the south, boldly owning our successes and opportunities.
Forbes expressed her excitement about the sales success and Naked Creative’s continued commitment to producing the magazine.
“It’s not only an essential tool for showcasing Southland’s best, it also extends an invitation to talent amidst the competitive recruitment landscape,” she said.
The Life magazine's 11th edition is available for purchase at selected bookstores and online.
